BLTs @ Duke's Charbroiler

Here's a cool little hole-in-the-wall burger joint that I go to a lot. It's nothing super special, but its close to my house and the have a big variety of stuff on the menu. They have everything from burgers, hot dogs, pastrami, steaks, teriyaki chicken, hearty pancake breakfasts, and burritos.

The BLTs here have become part of my pre-beach routine in the past few summers. I've been here so many times it's gotten to the point where I can just walk in and the cashier asks me, "The usual?"

Haute Links

I haven't gotten a Top Dog from Berkley in the longest time, but I think I found a worthy replacement.

The Cajun:

The menu includes a Sicilian Link, with roasted lean chicken, sweet crisp red and green bell peppers and freshly chopped onion; Greek Link with a lean blend of chicken, turkey, sundried tomatoes, black olives and feta cheese; Tuscano Link, a lean blend of chicken and turkey with roma tomatoes, fresh herbs and smoky mozzarella cheese; Pesto Romano Link, with a lean blend of smoked chicken and turkey, fresh basil, aged romano cheese and crunchy walnuts; El Paso Link, a spicy blend of lean turkey, jalapeno peppers and jack cheese; and the Garden of Eden Link, with a "garden" blend of soy and wheat proteins.

I definitely recommend the Cajun and the El Paso if you're into a little spice.

Located on MacArthur Blvd. and Main Street in Irvine. A weiner will cost ya around $4, which is kinda expensive but they're a good size.

Grilled chicken. Instead of drowning it in ketchup or BBQ sauce, I eat it the filipino way with soy sauce, lime and small chilis.

Huge fucking lobster.

I don't eat seafood but my dad sure does:

Fresh coconut milk. Woulda tasted better if served cold.

I just have to repost the Ice Cream Boat guy:

Footlong weiner...that tasted absolutely disgusting:

Went back to the Waffle Dog guy and got me some Waffle Fudge:

Island Chicken @ Hawaiian Loft

Every summer, my heart falls for one particular dish. In 8th grade it was breakfast burritos. Summer '01 was all about chicken sandwiches at Jack. Summer '03 was Yakitori Chicken at Hanoyame Sun.

This is my summer flavor for 2006.

A little background history: Hawaiian Loft and I go way back. My cousin has hookups with the owner so we always have a couple dishes catered for our family gatherings.

Also, back in the day I would come here so often that one of the waitresses took a small sticker picture of me eating and put it in her checkbook.

But things changed when L&L's opened with their similar hawaiian menu at a cheaper price, minus the long wait.

Recently, I've found myself going back to the Loft because their hawaiian flavors are unique, their portions are monstrous and cuz Shakas closed up shop in my area.

First I like to start off with some Spam Musubi (and extra teriyaki sauce).

Then onto the entree -- Island Style Fried Chicken.

And then you know me and my sauce fetish.
